Dr. Scott Yamaoka
Meet Dr. Yamaoka
Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, my first experience on the west coast was a high school rugby tour and I knew right away that Vancouver was where I wanted to live. I am a Board-Certified Periodontal Surgeon in both Canada and United States. My undergraduate degree in Biology is from the University of Western Ontario and in 1991, I completed my Doctorate in Dental Surgery from McGill University. My hospital residency was at the University of Colorado Health Science Center (Denver) and my specialty residency in Periodontology and Masters of Science degree was at the University of Texas Health Science Center (San Antonio), which is a world leader in regenerative bone therapy.
In 1995, I joined Dr. Neil Basaraba’s practice. Dr. Basaraba was a wonderful mentor and a gifted surgeon. I am a Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology, a Fellow of the Royal College of Dental Surgeons (Canada), and an examiner for the Royal College of Dental Surgeons. I served as President of The British Columbia Society of Periodontists and The British Columbia Society of Dental Specialists. I was honoured to receive the Award of Merit from the BC Dental Association and was also awarded a Fellowship in the International College and American College of Dentists for service to my profession and community.
My professional career is devoted to all aspects of periodontal practice with a special interest in dental implant rehabilitation of missing teeth, the treatment of gum recession, and guided bone regeneration. Our practice strives to stay abreast of the latest developments in periodontics. We have our own in-house cone-beam CT scanner and digital impression scanner with CAD/CAM technology, which makes our computer-guided dental implant placement protocol at the leading edge. This technology allows us to help patients by placing dental implants with the greatest measure of accuracy and the least amount of stress and time in the dental chair.
My hobbies include downhill skiing, fly-fishing, photography, and road cycling. I have been married to my wife Elsa since 1995 and we have three terrific children: Anna, Zachary, and Misa.
